When the game came out, there were flaws. We all know this and they are there but I never really let it bother me. I used to play H2H games, win some and lose some but the games were varied and were enjoyable.
Now I'm beginning to hate it.
I'll explain.
I've now reached 'my level' - around lvl 26. Now every match I play is a stress. Basically me and my opponent are most of the time good matches (as in playing ability, not the actual match) in that we can't really do anything spontaneous to break each other down. The games all feel like we are so evenly matched that we can't 'out football' each other. So by the end of it win, lose or draw every match comes down to luck - by which I mean retarded AI positioning or bobbles or something equally as lucky.
The game just doesn't feel rewarding anymore even if I win.

i think at a certain point the game does come down to a formulaic approach. i.e. do X, Y and Z to win, rather than being an expression of football, or creativity.
which is why at my level (same as you i think, last time i checked), the vast majority of people are using chelsea and hitting deep crosses or spamming high balls and playing 5 at the back.
i'm definitely thinking of switching to full manual if i ever get time.|||

I don't play formulaic really, I try things and if it doesn't work I try another form of build up. So it's not like I'm being predicatble as such.
It's literally like I say for me - I just cannot out fox my opponent and they cannot out fox me anymore either. Makes for some very frustrating results for both sides.
I flat refuse to spam aerial through balls from unrealistic areas, pressure abuse or similar exploits.
Perhaps manual is the way forward, good shout.
By doing that you can at least try different styles and not be hindered by AI and can put the ball into different areas.

yeah mate, I just think that you get to a certain level and (with assisted controls) there is only actually so much you can do 'creatively'.
By that, I mean (for example) you can spot a killer pass , but assisted passing physically WON'T let you put it there. You're always going to be limited to what the game will let you do.
Which is why so many games are like those you describe. Your opponent is probably similarly hampered.
Which is where actual 'skill' at the game comes into it. And once you get to higher levels, some people are just better at playing the game.
I also find it boring at this point, because winning games becomes a checklist of things.
1) try A
2) doesn't work try B
3) B works, need to defend,... do C
etc etc

its a battle of attrition. whoever makes a mistake defensively loses. and if your playing an even opponent then whoever is lagging more or more effected by the lag will prolly lose.|||

Don't agree with you. This game requires no skill whatsover. In fact, this game was designed so that players who have never played video games before can put up a fight against you. The gameplay is a mess so most use pressure (the AI) to do 90% of the work for them.|||The gameplay in this game is that *, that much of a weightless ping-pong mess, that buying a thirdparty joypad with turbo would give you a huge advantage (if the other guy was using the official joypad).|||

There's no space. You can't shield the ball. Players fall too much. It's not gameplay that I'm comfortable with. I don't feel in complete control because I can't control my players for a split second in certain situations. Running up the wing with as little passing as posible is better than a passing game. Just don't like it.|||I know exactly what you mean, I am level 29 online and every game I play just makes me stressed and bored because me and my oppenent just cancel each other out all game.
Every match always comes down to a lucky goal, for example: the ball has taken 3 deflections, hit the post, then my keeper and someone how gone in thanks to ret@rded AI
That's why I have started playing manager mode now, it's a lot less stressful
